We all want a recovery from the pandemic that prioritizes us, not the ultra-wealthy who are already doing so well in Washington. It’s time for us to come together and demand that our representatives make meaningful investments in our communities!
Committees recently heard two very important bills - the Recovery Rebate (Working Families Tax Credit) and the Wealth Tax. A Recovery Rebate (HB 1297/SB 5387) would put $500-$950 of much-needed cash back into our pockets, a boost that would give the most benefit to communities of color who have been hit hardest by this pandemic. A Wealth Tax (HB 1406) would require that the 100 richest Washingtonians finally pay their share in taxes.
You can read articles on these two bills here and here.
You can watch the testimonies of community members at the House committee hearing here and the Senate committee hearing here.
We may not have billions of dollars like Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates, but our voices are powerful when we show up and make ourselves heard. Here’s a few easy ways you can help secure some peace of mind and economic justice for our families:
- Comment on both the Recovery Rebate (HB 1297 and SB 5387) and Wealth Tax in support.
- Send a message to your legislators about the Recovery Rebate and Wealth Tax to let them know you care about an equitable recovery.
- Share the message with your friends and family, and uplift the movement on social media. You can share our posts from Facebook and Twitter @allinforwa.
